| Please understand that I love my country, the United States, but I do not trust our government or the mass media. Innocent people suffer and die because of what the US does. The first step to do anything about this is to see things as clearly as possible. Here is an outline of the major ideas and resources you can check for yourself. -No knowledgeable person now claims that there was any link between Saddam Hussein or Iraq and the 9-11 world trade center tragedy. President Bush and others were not simply mistaken when they claimed such links, they just plain lied. What was their motive? One was to gain control of Iraqi oil production. Iraq has the second largest reserves of oil in the world. The real kicker here, though, is that this control of Iraqi oil production is being used to limit production, not to make more oil available. I believe this is at least in part due to the huge amount of US dollars floating around the world because of our massive national debt and deficit financing. One major reason all these excess dollars aren't being spent in the US in an orgy of inflationary panic buying is that almost all oil trading done in the world is done in US dollars. As long as the price of oil stays high countries will have to hold on to dollars to buy oil. The second, and really main reason Bush ordered US forces to attack Iraq is to use the US military to destabilize or destroy the countries which will oppose continued expansion and aggression by Israel. The Bush administration is dominated by the so-called "Neo-cons". The Neo-cons, or new conservatives as they style themselves, are neither new nor conservative. Traditional conservatives generally favored limited government and very limited military involvement overseas. The neo-cons, in contrast, are actually connected to ex-Trotskyites, that is, the branch of soviet communism representing a more Jewish orientation which lost out to the Stalinists, who were more Russian, in the period between the two world wars. The Neo-cons are united by their primary allegiance to Israel and their willingness to say and do anything which will get the US to attack countries which could oppose Israel's continued expansion. As such they are traitors to our country. The area of Jewish/Israeli influence in the US need much more explanation than I will get into here, but I will point out a few basic ideas critical to understanding the war in Iraq. Jewish people, traumatized by media pourtrayals of the Holocaust, are exposed to a constant barrage of information claiming that Israel -The government's version of events on 9-11, as presented by our mass media, is a pack of lies, supported by more lies. The "war on terror" is a bogus propaganda ploy to intimidate people. Elements of our own government were involved in causing 9-11 to happen. The trauma of 9-11 was used as a springboard for much of what followed. -We do not have a watchdog media that seeks to protect us. Our mass media is owned and controlled at the top by the same people who own and control the giant international banks and corporations. Only those who do as they are told and support the specified agenda advance to positions of power. This is why the media has become a tool of mass manipulation and propaganda. Inconvenient truths are simply ignored. It is critical to grasp this reality in order to understand all that plays out from it. Many people think, "Well, if that were really happening then someone in the media would find it out and tell about it." Not so. -Most government officials merely act as spokesmen for the powerful interests who can make or break them. Failure to follow instructions means one will face strong and well financed opposition in the next election or face a coordinated media campaign concerning some alleged scandal which previously no one cared about. -The US supported Saddam Hussein and Iraq during the Iran/Iraq war. Much later US leaders could confidently say that Saddam had the ingredients for making biological weapons because they were provided by the US and the CDC in Atlanta. These were fine things for Iraq to consider using as long as it was Iranians who would be killed .-Kuwait used to be part of Iraq. Kuwait was stealing billions of dollars worth of Iraqi oil by slant drilling into Iraqi territory. Kuwait was selling much more than its OPEC allotment of oil which all OPEC countries opposed because it lowered the price of oil. Normally the big oil companies would also have opposed the Kuwaiti actions because it cut into their profit margin. But evidently this was no normal situation. Saddam Hussein was generally supported by the OPEC countries in his efforts to get Kuwait to stop surpassing its OPEC allotments. Saddam Hussein's efforts to deal peacefully with the Kuwaitis on this issue were unsuccessful. -Atrocity stories of Iraq gassing between 50,000 and 400,000 Kurds in the North of Iraq are complete fabrications. "Eye witness" accounts of such gassings are not supported by any actual evidence. If 50,000 or more people were slaughtered then either their bodies would take up a lot of space or a huge effort would have gone into disposing of them. Satellite photos could quickly reveal the locations of any mass graves. The US seeks to convict Saddam Hussein of crimes, but after years of US occupation of Iraq no mass graves of gassed Kurds have been shown to exist. Gassing of Kurds is not one of the charges against Saddam. It turns out that the Kurds are mostly loyal Iraqi citizens. The Kurds were integrated into the economy and government of Iraq. A small minority of Kurds, spurred on with encouragement from the US, did attempt to rebel against Saddam's government. Some people were killed in the resulting fighting, but it appears that most Kurds in Iraq are loyal citizens. Again, there is no evidence of Iraqis using poison gas against their own people. No government which expects to stay in power can tolerate an armed insurrection in the home country. In the US armed insurrection by southern slave-holding states led to the Civil War which resulted in the deaths of more Americans than almost all of the other wars Americans have fought in combined. Should our government hold it against Saddam for doing what Abraham Lincoln did in our own American Civil War? -President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld Colin Powell, other government spokesmen stated repeatedly that Iraq had "Weapons of Mass Destruction" (WMDs). Yet none have been found and administration officials have admitted that they were wrong about this. We were lied to. The last WMDs, according to UN inspectors, were destroyed in November of 1991 with full Iraqi cooperation. -Sanctions against Iraq in the period between the two US invasions caused the deaths of between 250,000 and one million Iraqis, most of them children. Only the US superpower status keeps this from being prosecuted as a war crime. First we systematically bombed their power plants, water treatment, sewage treatment, food processing and other necessities of life and then the sanctions prevented replacement parts for repairs from being obtained. Iraq was also denied basics like medicines for hospitals and chlorine to treat drinking water. This was AFTER the last WMDs were destroyed. This has led to epidemics of easily treatable diseases. Clearly our policy here appears to be one of ethnic cleansing; killing Iraqis just because they are Iraqis. -Us ambassador to Iraq, April Glaspie, met with Saddam Hussein on July 25, 1990. This was just before Iraq invaded Kuwait. Hussein was frank with his concerns about Kuwait and what the US reaction to Iraq's actions might be. This meeting was filmed and according to the transcrips, which the state department has never disputed, Glaspie, speaking as the official voice of the US government, told Saddam Hussein, "...we have no opinion on the Arab-Arab conflicts, like your border disagreement with Kuwait...we hope you can solve this problem using any suitable methods..." Having expressed the US position that the US did not care what Iraq did about Kuwait, Ms Glaspie then went on vacation. She has never been called into question concerning what she said. -Atrocity stories concerning Iraqi soldiers stealing incubators from Kuwaiti hospitals and leaving babies on the floor to die are just that - stories. These stories and others were fabricated by Kuwaiti nationals and others to create anti-Iraq passions. The Kuwaitis used their massive oil wealth to hire the US Public Relations firm of Hill and Knowlton "to make the case for war". -Iraq clearly had no intention of invading Saudi Arabia as the US government claimed. Claims that the Iraqi army was massing on the Saudi border were false. The Saudis were shown areal photographs supposedly revealing Iraqi troops on their border by the US military. Later the Pentagon refused to produce any such photos, and Soviet satelite photos showed no Iraqi troops there at all. Saddam had no reason at all to be angry at Saudi Arabia since the Saudis had forgiven Iraq a huge debt of war loans. - |
